Services
The Sordy family have farmed at Alnham for nearly one hundred years and so have an intimate knowledge of the area and all it has to offer.
The hamlet of Alnham and its surrounds has been occupied for thousands of years with Saxon hill settlements and Roman fortresses all around.
In the medieval ages the village would have been much bigger, housing up to 300 or 400 people.
At that time the church and peele tower, both still present today, would have formed the pinnacle of the village, with a now demolished manor house on the opposing bank of the river Aln not far from its source on the aptly named Castle Hill.
The Gatehouse is a fantastically equipped 4 star self-catering cottage set in the splendour of the Northumberland Hills.
Start to relax as you leave the main road and head up the Whittingham Vale to the delightful hamlet of Alnham, near Alnwick.
Leave your cares behind as you enter this recently refurbished cottage with is spacious living room with a log burning stove, comfy sofas and deep arm chairs.
Have a peaceful night's sleep in either the master (double) bedroom, calm and uncluttered with deep windows framing long valley views or in the twin room also enjoying fantastic furnishings marrying the old with the new.
Walk straight out of the Gatehouse door in to the unspoilt spectacular scenery of the Northumberland Nation Park and its surrounds.
Take an easy sedate route to the 10th Century Church or go and explore the hills, valleys and woodlands surrounding Alnham, all teeming with bird life and wild life.
Visit the Hazelton Rigg Wood in late spring/early summer and witness the massive carpet of bluebells, keep your eyes peeled for king fishers and wood peckers, otters, badges and deer.
The Gatehouse is on national cycle route 68 and with miles of restricted byways and quiet country roads; there is nowhere better for the lazy summer ride or and more invigorating cross country round trip.
Northumberland National Park, the land of the far horizons - a landscape of limitless beauty from Hadrian's Wall to the Cheviot Hills.
Spread over the hills and valleys at the very top of England, but right in the centre of Britain, Northumberland National Park has unspoilt treasures awaiting your discovery.
Ancient pre-history and the rare red squirrel exist alongside traditional lifestyles with a thriving culture.
There are distinct characteristics within the landscape of the National Park.
To the north there are the breathtaking rolling moors and grasslands of the Cheviot Hills, with their ancient hillforts and pure rivers.
