Located in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, in Emley near Huddersfield, you'll find Gilcar Farm - a collection of three unique holiday cottages each renovated to the same high standards from previously unused farm buildings. Two of the three self-catering cottages - The Blacksmiths Shop and Six Mistle - have been designed to allow easy access for wheelchair users, including level access, wet rooms/showers and ground floor bedroom facilities.

Our luxury, self-catering holiday accommodation comprises three unique cottages - The Barn, The Six Mistle and The Blacksmiths Shop - all lovingly renovated from disused farm buildings in Emley near Huddersfield - the heart of the Yorkshire countryside.
Each cottage has its own unique characteristics, is self-contained and has been converted to the same luxurious standard and, being surrounded by open fields, they offer the perfect opportunity to relax in peace and quiet.

Three generations of the same family have worked at Gilcar Farm in Emley, and it still remains to this day a successful working dairy farm - in fact our Six Mistle holiday cottage used to be the milking parlour!.
Now the main farm is located across a country lane from the holiday cottages - so you won't be disturbed when we start milking at 5am in the morning!
Although the majority of our cattle are located on the working farm site, we have sheep, young calves and mums-to-be in the fields adjacent to the cottages.

As a working dairy farm, as well as holiday cottage lets, we have found that we are increasingly receiving enquiries for work experience from students wishing to apply to University for veterinary or animal related courses.
All of the above universities are wanting from an applicant, in a field which is becoming more competitive.
We are delighted to say that many students who have completed work experience with us have always been successful gaining places after spending a week with Andrew and his team.
