Beckford House
On your arrival Anthony O'Flaherty will give you your keys and a map of recommended restaurants. His house is large and welcoming (rather like Mr O'Flaherty himself!) with original paintings and sculpture collected over many years. If you are travelling by car you will be able to park safely in the drive and explore Bath by foot. If you are planning to drive into the countryside, which is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Anthony will be happy to advise on what to see and do.

He knows Bath well. He lived here with his parents and sister in the 1950s, then lived in London, returning in 1979 with his wife, daughter and son. He and his wife ran a 14-bedroom guest house in the 80s and 90s before taking 'semi-retirement'. He now runs 2 bedrooms at Beckford's and 3 holiday flats in the centre of Bath.
Services
Famous worldwide for its imposing architecture and Roman remains, Bath is a vibrant city with over 40 museums, good restaurants, quality shopping and theatres, festivals and 2 universities.
The Roman Baths and magnificent Temple were built around the natural hot spring which rises at 46°C and were at the centre of Roman life in Aquae Sulis between the first and fifth centuries.
The remains are remarkably complete and include sculpture, coins, jewellery and the bronze head of the goddess Sulis Minerva.
There is an excellent farmers' market every Saturday and this is where ingredients are breakfast is sourced.
Getting good ingredients is half the battle in providing good breakfasts and when the farmers' market (www.bathfarmersmarket.co.uk) at Green Park became a weekly event, this became straightforward.
One thing I like about the market is you meet the producer: George for mushrooms, David for eggs, Angela for jams and marmalades, Rosie for vegetables, Linda and Alan for bread and the conversational Becky for cut flowers.
Turn off the Warminster - Bristol road (A36) opposite Skoda (with Green Park Tavern on corner); keep straight ahead and follow hedge in Upper Oldfield Park: look for Number 59 and Drachenfels on the stone gate pillar, the original name of the house in 1883.
Number 59 is the 3rd entrance on the right from Lower Oldfield Park.
From the station the following buses pass Upper Oldfield Park: 12 (Whiteway), 15, 18, U10, U18 and X18 (Bath SPA University direction).
Ask for Lower Oldfield Park stop.
I timed myself and it takes (me) 12 minutes to the theatre and 14 minutes to the station but depends of course on how quickly you walk and what you stop to look at on the way and so on.
3. Thank you for such a delightful and charming experience here at 59 Upper Oldfield Park.
4. I take home with me a good memory of your lovely, sensitive home and welcoming manner, Anthony.
9. We had a really great stay - Thank you for your hospitality - beautiful guest house and beautiful room - Thanx Anthony, it was better than what I saw on the internet.
Will definitely return.
Anthony, The room and your hospitality definitely exceeded our expectations.
We have really enjoyed our stay and will certainly be recommending your B&B to friends and family.
The spa is situated in a glass cube building near the site of the ancient Royal Baths, yet manages to fuse state of the art architecture with its historic surroundings.
The Thermae Bath Spa has been integrated with the nearby Hot and Cross Baths, but also offers some brand new facilities.
The open-air rooftop pool is popular as it provides panoramic views of the city in relaxing surroundings.
