Services
The present property was built in 1860 as the out buildings once part of the original Flichity Inn, which was destroyed in 1964.
The property stood derelict for some time and was purchased by John Trotter of Achneim in the early eighties and called 'The Grouse & Trout' and has now been tastefully converted to provide quality accommodation and dinning in a relaxed atmosphere.
Much care was taken to preserve the old stonework and timber beams, giving a sense of unhurried charm and traditional workmanship.
For years this site if not the present buildings, has provided hospitality and accommodation to people traveling through the Strathnairn valley.
History provides details of the Macgillivray clan assembling here before going to fight at the battle of Culloden 1746.
If you are looking for a relaxing break or a base to explore the surrounding Strathnairn and Loch Ness area, The Steadings at the Grouse & Trout is the perfect place.
There are seven beautifully appointed guest rooms, some are on the ground floor and some on the first floor.
Picture the scene.
We are looking at a prehistoric standing stone located on a wide, open landscape.
Apart from a few sprawling, mature Caledonian Scots Pine trees scattered at random across the countryside, there is very little shelter from the north-easterly breeze.
The sky is dark and heavy and there is a feeling of winter in the air even although it is springtime.
All around is a babble of sound.
There are people here - a lot of people.
All are speaking in the Gaelic language of their ancestors.
We are situated in Upper Strathnairn, on the B851 road, about 15-20 minutes south of Inverness, and 8 miles east of Loch Ness.
From the north or Inverness take the A9 south, (Perth) after approx 8Km passed Inverness take the B851 signed for Fort Augustus.
