Services
The Spinney has been around since 1750.
Over the years, as you'd expect, it's seen a few additions and changes.
It's been a rectory for the Arch Deacon of Barnstaple, a hunting lodge, and a family home.
In its most recent incarnation, it's a guest house.
And it's a pretty good one too, if we say so ourselves.
The most recent owner, Marie-Ann, has been here for a few years now, continuing and improving the tradition.
The Spinney has a long and really quite interesting history.
So, if you find yourself here and want to know some more, find MA, who'll be more than keen to tell you about the B&B.
At The Spinney, we've got five rooms, each furnished with all the creature comforts you could hope to find at a B&B.
The Spinney's rooms are stocked with many of the little luxuries you'd usually expect to find in a five star hotel.
Four of the rooms have en-suite facilities and one has a private, separate bathroom.
All of the rooms are comfortable and attractively furnished with lovely views over local farmland to the front of the property and the rolling Devonshire hills to the rear.
This room has views of the stunning North Devonshire landscape and boasts a fabulous quality super king sized bed.
Room 1 has views of the stunning Devonshire landscape and boasts a fabulous quality super king sized bed dressed with crisp, cool, white cotton sheets and the softest, lightest goose down duvets.
This said, if you're not a fan of down, there are anti allergy alternatives too.
The quality of the linens extends to the soft, extra-large and fluffy white towels.
You'll be comfortably dry before you can say 'the average rainfall in the Gobi desert is actually higher than Antarctica'.
In Room 5, there's a more than ample King-size bed and a single bed too, so it's perfectly suited for groups of 3, families, or if you are in want of space.
It's a quite a big room with large bay window and comfortable seating area.
From there, you can see all the way to Shirwell, over the neighbouring villages, and beyond, to the distant reaches of Exmoor.
To ensure a calm and relaxed atmosphere for all of our guests, we have a policy of discouraging young people over the age of 10.
I aim to provide you with a quality breakfast using the freshest of local ingredients where they are available.
Everyone is different and I like to cater breakfast to reflect everyones individual requirements, vegetarian, gluten free and vegan options are a normal part of the extensive menu.
The bread is baked daily using freshly ground spelt.
