Welcome to the Anglers' Retreat Guesthouse and Eco POD set on the beautiful island of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides. We specialise in providing a first rate service for anglers wishing to fish the wonderful lochs of South Uist and Benbecula. Our home cooked breakfasts and 2 course evening meals are always plentiful and very tasty. We also provide packed lunches if required.
Gary has over 12 years anglering experience on these lochs. He is available as a ghillie, providing extensive knowlege of the area as well as general help and advice as needed. We are Storas Ubhist Estate fishing agents for the issue of permits and we manage all of our guest fishing needs with the estate. We can also provide engines, seats, lifejackets, flies and tackle loan if required.
The Eco POD is open to all on a self catering basis with a minimum stay of 3 days. Our 4 berth (2 doubles) self catering Lune Valley Micro Lodge. This top of the range POD is extremely comfortable and ideal for those who crave total freedom.

The Anglers' Retreat has 3 guest rooms in the main house.
All rooms are ensuite and have new tiled bathrooms, flooring and furniture.
Two of the larger room have king and single beds so are suitable for 2 fisherman to share if snoring is not an issue!
The other downstairs room has a king sized bed.
The visitors also have use of a comfortable lounge with full Sky Q package and free access to the internet via WiFi.
Acommodation is serviced daily and all meals are freshly home cooked.
The Lune Valley Micro Lodge POD is very luxurious and has underfloor heating, fixed double bed, double sofabed, dining table, TV/ Radio, bathroom with shower, kitchen with fridge, 2 hob cooker and combi microwave/ normal oven.

We are located half way between Lochboisdale and Lochmaddy ferry terminals (25 miles either way) so either suits for getting here but we would always recommend the Uig- Lochmaddy service as it is the most reliable all year round.
Benbecular Airport is only 6 miles away and cars can be hired from Ask Car Hire at very reasonable prices.

Without doubt South Uist fishing is some of the best in the world, wild Brown Trout, Sea-Trout and Salmon can be found in our numerous lochs all of which are within easy reach of the Anglers' Retreat.

Most of the small lochs are hardly ever fished and all are capable of holding hard fighting lightning fast Brownies ranging from a few ounces to 2lb and more.
These can be explored at your leisure from the bank using a single daily permit.

A fly rod of about 10.5 ft, and AFTM 6-8, a selection of traditional Scottish and Irish flies in sizes from 14 to 8, floating and intermediate lines to suit and leader material of 6/8 lbs BS make up a basic kit, but by all means bring your favourite flies, and if you have one, pack a dapping rod.
A single handed or switch fly rod of about 10 -11.5 feet, and AFTM 7-9 line with a stiff leader material of 8/10 lbs BS (Maxima works well).
Whatever your quarry it is invariably windy (10-25mph) on the Outer Hebrides and your tackle needs to be capable of punching a line out in windy conditions, particularly if bank fishing, a weight forward line is therefore highly recommended even though the majority of fish are caught close into the bank.
