The bustling town of Kirkby Lonsdale is at the heart of the local farming community and the weekly market takes place right outside the Royal every Thursday. Main Street is home to dozens of quirky independent retailers and numerous footpaths lead straight out of town into the beautiful Lune Valley.

Further afield, the spectacular scenery of the Lakeland Fells or the Yorkshire Dales are less than 30 minutes away by car.

read more › The Royal Hotel's accommodation comprises 14 individually decorated bedrooms arranged over three floors. Dating back to mid 18th century, the rooms are delightfully distinctive, with no two bedrooms being exactly alike. All rooms have ensuite facilities - although the smaller ones dispense with a bath - and the differing levels of space and accommodation are recognised in the tariff. The Dowager Queen Adelaide slept at what was then the Rose & Crown Inn in 1840, an auspicious occasion which subsequently led to the building's change of name to the Royal Hotel.
