The Old Rectory Hotel
There is a conversation that appears to be pretty well mandatory for people over the age of 30 when they go on holiday. It goes something like this. Wouldn't it be lovely if we could stay forever? If we sold our house we could buy a huge mansion/sprawling villa/converted barn in this area. But we didn't laugh.

We headed straight home back in 2008 to throw in our corporate day jobs, make an appointment with the bank manager and set about making our dream come true - to create a unique and special boutique country house hotel - the kind of place we and our friends had always wanted to stay at but which we could never find.We spent weekends scouring The West Country and, due to journey times, focused on Devon as the county in which our baby, a luxury and romantic country house hotel would be born.

The first time we saw The Old Rectory Hotel in the unbelievably peaceful hamlet of Martinhoe on the Exmoor coast we knew we'd found the right place for us. It was a grey and wet October day and we fell in love with the hotel before we had even opened the door.
Services
There are many reasons why we enjoy running The Old Rectory Hotel, including the stunning Exmoor location, the bountiful acres of gardens and working with our loyal team of staff to create a welcoming place to stay.
However, our greatest pleasure is meeting so many interesting people.
It is a joy to greet returning guests who come back as old friends, and to offer new visitors the chance to relax and enjoy our peaceful, stunning surroundings, great food and warm hospitality.
How quickly time passes and now, in our twelfth year here, we are overjoyed by how the place has evolved over the years into the much loved boutique hotel we have today.
Allow us to introduce ourselves; We are Huw Rees and Sam Prosser and we own and run The Old Rectory Hotel.
Corporate escapees, we took to the hills a few years ago to follow our dream and open the kind of hotel where we and our friends would like to stay.
Great hospitality, good food and wine are our passion and we hope that you will come and see us soon.
In our previous lives, Huw was a surveyor and Sam headed up business sales for a major car rental company.
Big fans of Georgian architecture, we swapped a Georgian town house and corporate life in Bristol for a Georgian rectory on Exmoor where we could build the kind of civilised place to stay that we had dreamed of.
In keeping with our historic buildings, each bedroom is different from the next - imaginatively decorated in classic country house style with a boutique hotel twist.
Our bedrooms are an eclectic mix of contemporary and antique, supremely comfortable with special little luxury touches like Noble Isle products, crisp white linen and fluffy white towels.
Each room has a complimentary hot drinks tray and kettle, flat screen freeview TV, DAB radio, hairdryer, complimentary superfast fibre WiFi and our very own Spring Water on tap.
The Dinner, bed and breakfast tariff is discounted for stays of 7 nights or more and must be booked as a package for the length of your stay.
Guests staying on a Bed & Breakfast basis are welcome for dinner at a charge of 42.50 per head.
We regret that, due to a number of water features on site, we can not accommodate children under 14 years of age.
If you would like more information or would like to book a room, please telephone us on 01598 763368 or Book Online.
We absolutely love cooking and serving delicious exciting food which utilises the very best produce that Exmoor and North Devon offers.
We buy local produce - meat from local farms and fish from local day boats, all fresh of the highest quality and very low in food miles.
We have our own kitchen garden in which we grow herbs, salads and our own vegetables for the table.
Our dinner menu is small and fresh but changes every day to make sure that there is always something different every evening to tempt you.
