Our 17th Century farmhouse features a traditional beamed lounge available at all times, ample private parking, secure bicycle storage and drying room.
The Farmhouse is situated within attractive gardens; front and back. We have six rooms, one is suitable for mobility impaired guests. All three ground floor rooms are dog friendly with direct access to the garden and our own field. Scales Farm is a farmhouse and barn dating from 1650s.
It was converted and modernised from a farm to a guest house in the early 80s with extensive but sensitive modernisation such that many original features have been retained.
In 2015 further modernisation of the bathrooms, hot water and heating systems were completed with the utilisation of a renewable energy boiler.
We first discovered the Lake District by chance in the 90's when, as helpers at our children's Scout Group we offered to assist with their annual visit to the Lakes.

The farmhouse is of traditional Cumbrian architecture dating from the 1650's and has retained many original features such as oak beam supports and some very large rocks within the wall structures!
However, where necessary, modernisation has taken place; double glazing throughout and a powerful eco- friendly heating and hot water system providing mains pressure showers; just what you need after a long walk.
The Breakfast room is spacious with views to the rear garden.
Bird feeders attached to the windows enable guests to enjoy the extensive birdlife that we encourage from very close quarters indeed.

Full English all or any combination of local sourced bacon and sausage, hash brown, mushrooms, tomato, black pudding, baked beans, fried egg, poached egg, scrambled egg, boiled egg.

Blencathra provides walks from easy and safe (Blease and Scales) to hard and exposed (Halls and Sharp edge).
Scales Farm is also opposite Clough Head which is the most Northern mountain of the Helvellyn Range stretching all the way from Clough Head in the North to Rydal in the South a superb ridge walk that takes in Great Dodd, Raise and Helvellyn and remains stubbornly above 2000' for many miles.
