Fay and Dane Carty welcome you to the Stables Guest House in Newton Stewart, set in its own grounds with ample private parking. Our B&B offers 5 en-suite bedrooms, 3 of which are on the ground floor and 2 on the first floor. They are well equipped with freeview television, hospitality tray, hairdryer, towels and toiletries etc. We have an attractive dining room with adjoining conservatory and offer good quality home cooked food, using local produce where possible.

The residents lounge, well stocked with books and maps, allows you to relax after a long day walking, golfing, shopping or just enjoying the local countryside. A bike storage unit and workshop are available for guests, or if you prefer Dane is a Cyctech level 2 qualified bike mechanic and can offer help.
Services
Fay has been a primary school teacher in Birmingham, for 18 years and I've worked as an IT consultant, also in the Midlands for over 30 years.
During 2017, I was offered a voluntary redundancy package, I also inherited some money after my Mom passed away.
This has enabled us to live our dream of living somewhere as beautiful as Galloway, and running a B&B.
Fay and I are keen cyclists, both road and mountain (although the high end trails at Kirroughtree are beyond our abilities).
I have completed the Birmingham Velo 100, a 100 mile sportive and would love to, but haven't yet, completed the Loch Ness sportive.
Fay and I are very keen cyclists, one of the reasons we came here on holiday, before moving here to run the B&B, was to cycle.
Well known are the mountain biking centres at Kirroughtree and Glentrool, but maybe less well known are the quiet scenic roads for road cyclists and the superb forestry tracks, ideal for gravel/adventure cyclists.
We also have excellent facilities for cyclists at the B&B from storage, to a workshop where we keep spare tyres, inners, wheels, bearings, cables and brake blocks.
Forestry Commission Scotland has established part of Galloway Forest Park as the first Dark Sky Park in the UK.
The Sky Quality Meter (SQM) scale is from 0 to 25.
You would get a reading of 8 in the middle of a major city such as Glasgow or Edinburgh, whereas a 24 would be measured in a photographer's dark room.
Based on this scale, the Galloway Forest Park's scores range from 21 to 23.6 which gives us as near to total darkness as you can get given the populations around us.
Stables Guest House is directly behind the popular Newton Stewart Museum.
Within a 30 mile radius of the Stables Guest House you will find a wide range of activities and attractions available with something to suit all interests be it sport and leisure, hill walking, history and archaeology or bird watching.
With various routes marked through the town, Newton Stewart is the ideal base for cyclists of all abilities.
Newton Stewart and the surrounding area, called 'The Machars', are areas of outstanding natural beauty and are often referred to by cyclists as a "cyclist's paradise".
