There has been a dwelling at Nichols Nymet for 1000 years.
It was mentioned in the Domesday Book.
The term Nymet means 'place in the wood' or 'place of refuge and sanctuary'.
We believe that in pre reformation times there may have been a monastery here, and there was a chapel in the field which fell down in 1769.
Reputedly, there was a tunnel from the Manor House to the chapel, but we have not yet found it!
The current Manor house was built in 1816 on what was left of a previous stone built house which may have burnt down.
