At 13 he inherited his Fathers shares in the family Iron-making business and with this he built the largest cast iron structure of its era: The First Iron Bridge ever built.
In turn the bridge caused the Village of Ironbridge to grow around it with the area being subsequently named Ironbridge Gorge.

Call into Darby's 1779 and we will assist you to your room you will then be given your keys and directions to Our Private & Secure Locked Car Park which is situated 150 meters away on Waterloo Street this can be reached by a gentle walk along Ironbridge high street where you can see some of the individual and artisan shop traders, a selection of places to eat and drink from the Michelin star Restaurant Severn to the contemporary Indian restaurant Pondercherry which is set in the Old Police Station or maybe just a short romantic stroll along the riverside.
