Alfred Wainwright stayed here on a number of occasions whilst he was creating the world famous "Coast to Coast" walk, the route of which passes within 100 metres of our door.

Tirril Brewery has dabbled for some years making single malts based on our beer recipes, which has been fun, but the single malt whisky market we have found is elitist and somewhat snobby.
The proliferation of gins has proved to be much more inclusive and the variety of styles and flavours a lot more exciting than the narrow parameters of single malt whiskies.
We still stock our single malts, but have devoted our time over the past twelve months to making distinctly Cumbrian gins.
What has disappointed us has been the amount of mass produced almost synthetic gins, made by mixing alcohol and commercial flavourings, without any effort to distill or care of sourcing of ingredients.

It's a peaceful, unspoilt village, away from the busy tourist centres, and yet within easy reach of them, with most buildings being constructed from local slate.
