A 17th Century Coaching Inn with a wealth of character set in the medieval 'Black and White' town of Much Wenlock, Shropshire, the Gaskell Arms Hotel is a family run hotel and restaurant. At the Gaskell Arms we offer both bed and breakfast and self-catering accommodation in the hotel and spacious grounds, providing a wonderful base for visitors to Shropshire, for business trips and leisure with everything guests could need for a comfortable stay.

The a la carte restaurant and bar provide a selection of delicious home-cooked meals, using local produce and suppliers where possible, perfect for our guests to refuel during their stay. If you are looking for the ideal venue for a business meeting, private event or a special occasion such as an anniversary or small wedding party, our team can help with this also, with plenty of experience of pulling together events, with every detail taken care of.

The Gaskell Arms's charm doesn't stop there, it also has a walled garden - a great way for our guests to make the most of the stunning surroundings on a sunny day whilst enjoying some of the local thirst quenching tipples available.

The Gaskell Arms, previously a 17th century coach house, is delightfully situated on the edge of the medieval town of Much Wenlock, near Ironbridge, Shropshire.
Now a family owned hotel and restaurant, the Gaskell Arms offers hotel accommodation (rated 3* by the AA) with 14 rooms in total, including the Mews and Coach House.
Whilst retaining all the charms of our historic past, including the original oak beams, the Gaskell Arms features all the modern conveniences and comforts to make your visit as enjoyable as possible - starting with the welcoming warmth of a wood burner to greet you in the winter through to our modern and spacious accommodations.
A historic coaching inn from the 17th century, the Gaskell Arms has been a focal point in Much Wenlock since the beginning, welcoming guests with its stately bow windows and traditional appearance even today.
Since the Georgian times the Gaskell Arms has held a prominent position in the travellers heart, with coach and horses in the 1700s, through to the arrival of the railway in Much Wenlock in 1860.
Whilst the world now runs at at faster pace, and the roads and transport methods used by guests to arrive at the Gaskell Arms have changed, the warm welcome and respite it offers to travellers is still the same, retaining its importance as one of the main hotels in the areas.
The Gaskell Arms in Much Wenlock is surrounded by some of the most wonderful countryside views around of Shropshire, but you don't have to look far to find your very own haven whilst staying with us, with the beautiful walled garden and terrace within our hotel grounds.

It is perfectly matched to our 17th century inn, in that it is hugely spacious and once there you could almost forget about everyday life.
Arrived at the 17th Century Coaching Inn, The Gaskell Arms Hotel mid afternoon and after parking the car in the spacious car park, was greeted with a friendly smile and welcome.
The entire hotel is maintained and run to high standards.
The youngsters under training in the dining room were wonderful hosts.
The room was very comfortable with a good shower.
Restaurant food at dinner and breakfast was excellent, extensive menu with good choice for non-meat eaters.
We had a lovely stay, friendly and helpful staff, good food, comfy room - ticks all the boxes.
The tranquil ruins of Wenlock Priory stand in a picturesque setting on the fringe of beautiful Much Wenlock.
An Anglo-Saxon monastery was founded here in about 680 by King Merewalh of Mercia, whose abbess daughter Milburge was hailed as a saint.
Her relics were miraculously rediscovered here in 1101, attracting both pilgrims and prosperity to the priory.
Roman name "Viroconium", the excavated remains of the second largest Roman city in Britain.
Impressive ruins include 2nd century baths and remains of a huge gateway.
