Straven is situated in a lovely suburb of Edinburgh which boasts a beautiful beach and range of independent cafes, bars, restaurants and shops.
There is a rich heritage to the area and the name Portobello, meaning 'beautiful port', is justly given.
The promenade was created in 1876 and you can enjoy an easy stroll and the views day or evening.
There are many buildings of interest and there is a heritage trail detailing the ceramics history and places of interest such as the Coades stone pillars in the Community Garden at the promenade.
There is so much to do in the Capital city that we can only pick a few favourites of ours.
The Real Mary King's Close is worth a mention.
You are bound to be on the Royal Mile when exploring Edinburgh and this is a great way to spend some time.
However as it is only accessible through guided tours it is always advisable to book.
You can book in person for later in the day when it is not peak season or online here for at least a day in advance.
It's just opposite St Giles with its glorious stained glass which is too beautiful to miss and then pop into the Royal Mile Market on the Tron Kirk.
We are lucky to be in a beautiful suburb of Edinburgh which is right on a golden sandy beach.
There are lots of local sea swimmers who are out all year round for a daily swim (and don't forget the Porty dook on New Years day!).
If you are a little fainter of heart perhaps a summer paddle or all year round walk on the sand or prom is more suited!
You can explore the rock pools at the East end of the beach or stop for a picnic on the sand watching the paddleboarders, kite surfers and rowers.
For a great scenic walk locally, head to Newhailes.
