Situated in 80 acres of private grounds with lovely walks from the doorstep. Whether it's a gentle stroll or a good hike to the high peaks, Yewfield offers many opportunities for exploring this unique national park. The gardens provide a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the stunning views, or on cooler days, sit by the log fire in the lounge and catch up with a good book.

Yewfield occasionally caters for independent yoga events but we are delighted to announce that we are now offering our own Yoga at Yewfield. The perfect combination: being cosseted within Yewfield's wonderful accommodation and being absorbed in your yoga.

Set in a quiet, elevated position with panoramic views over the Vale of Esthwaite, Lake Windermere and the Fells beyond, Yewfield is situated in over 80 acres of its own grounds. The house itself, with its impressive Gothic architecture, dates back to 1859. The extensive grounds around the house include native woodland, rough fell pasture, a small tarn and a stream.

read more › Double and twin rooms at Yewfield are individually appointed to a very high standard, all with en-suite bath and shower or walk in shower, TV/DVD, and tea and coffee making facilities. We have 10 ensuite rooms in the main house plus several rooms situated at Rose How cottage and coach house next door. The public rooms of Yewfield provide quiet corners for you to curl up with a book or just enjoy the quiet ambience of the house. Music, books and DVDs are available to borrow from the extensive library.

read more › Tarn Hows is just a few minutes walk from the house and is one of the most photographed areas of the Lakes. A map of surrounding walks which includes Tarn Hows circuit, Black Crag and Hawkshead village as well as a walk around our extensive grounds and garden is freely available. You can also borrow a map covering Central Lakes from the reception. We are always happy to suggest a walking, running or cycling routes.

read more › The three night B&B plus dinner on two nights offer is now available every night throughout the season. Based on availability, 1 night bookings are occasionally made available online, please see our booking calendar or give us a call. Some of our rooms can accommodate an extra person on a pull-out sofa bed or day bed charged at 30.00 per night. Children under 9 years of age cannot be accommodated in the guest house, but are welcome in the self-catering apartments. Pets are not allowed in the main house, however we do accept pets in our outside rooms and self-catering apartments.

And across the stone wall with enclosed garden we have Rose How where Rose How 1 and Rose How 5 apartments are located. A wonderful location for those wishing for a quiet retreat with walks straight from the door to Tarn Hows and the hills beyond. Swallows Nest is a conversion of a top floor in a lovely old coach house and it offers a comfortable accommodation for up to 4 people in picturesque rural surroundings.

read more › The two founder members of the much loved group "The Impossible Gentlemen" have established a unique rapport through their love of music of all kinds from rock to classical, jazz and folk. These extraordinary improvisational talents explore a rich harmonic world that is highly accessible, emotionally engaging and often jaw dropping. They met Hermine Deurloo at Ambleside Festival and found an instant musical rapport. This is a new trio with much to explore. Yewfield has been used for a number of record productions by musicians from around the world.

read more › The Yewfield estate covers about 80 acres in total, with two acres of gardens around the house, 25 acres of grazing land and the remaining as woodland. In all of the areas we aim to manage the land organically and sustainably, and to encourage wildlife. There are several walks from the front door that take you through the estate, with the help of a small guide you can pick up at Reception. The informal gardens comprise a patio garden of roses and perennials, vegetable gardens, wildflower lawns and an orchard of local apple and damson varieties.

After weeks of rain we have finally been blessed with some dry, cool, sunny, quintessentially autumn weather. Summer has somehow quietly slipped by, no doubt helped along by the wet and dreary August weather. After watching Judi Dench's delightful portrait of trees at her home in Surrey on the telly. As we near the end of the B and B season here at Yewfield we enter the beginning of the gardening year.

read more › Zeffirellis, our award winning vegetarian pizza/pasta restaurant, is now in its 35th year and proves to be as popular as ever, with live music in the Jazz bar and a good choice of film in the 5 screen cinema. The three course dinner offer also allows for a two course dinner and reserved cinema seat. Fellinis Restaurant offers more in Vegetarian fine dining with a changing Mediterranean influence in its cuisine. Although Yewfield doesn't offer dinner (with the exception of some of our concert evenings), we have two award-winning restaurants, Zeffirellis and Fellinis, just 4.5 miles away in Ambleside.

read more › Yewfield is situated in 80 acres of private grounds at Hawkshead Hill; 1.5 miles from Hawkshead, 4.5 miles from Ambleside and 9 miles from Windermere train station. FROM AMBLESIDE: Take the A593 towards Coniston and after 0.6 miles, at Clappersgate, turn left onto the B5286 towards Hawkshead. After approx 1.5 miles turn right towards Coniston, Tarn Hows and The Drunken Duck. Approx 1.7 miles past the Drunken Duck, you will see a sign to Hawkshead Hill - drive up the hill and we are at the top on the right.

read more › All the heating and hot water in the guesthouse and apartments is from our Herz biomass woodchip boiler one of the first to be installed in Cumbria. The 80 acre woodland provides more than enough chip for our needs, and is extracted from the Yewfield woods by horses. Yewfield has a recycling area for guests staying in the apartments and for the guesthouse use. We use Ecos washing liquid for the laundry and organic soaps and shampoos in the guest rooms.
